How to Join

If you are considering joining Greensboro Kodokan Aikido, we ask you to come watch a class. The instructor and students will be available and willing to answer questions and share their experiences afterwards. Subsequently, you are invited to participate in two free trial classes. Before getting on the mat to practice, you will be required to read, fill out, and sign a release form. Release forms are available at the dojo. No practice uniform is needed for trial classes. Clean, loose-fitting clothes, such as sweat pants and a long sleeved tee-shirt, will suffice. We do ask that all participants remove jewelry. If jewelry can’t be removed, it must be covered with a bandage or tape. We also ask that all participants attend class with clean hands and feet and with fingernails and toenails trimmed. The removal of jewelry and hygiene requirements are for safety and consideration of the partners you will be practicing with.

As you watch others, remember that many of these folks have been practicing for years, but everyone was a new student at one time. We encourage students not to compare themselves with others. Everybody has something to contribute and everybody has something to learn. It is also important to remember that we all have different abilities and challenges. Aikido is a practice of self exploration and betterment within a supportive community.

If you decide you want to become a member of the dojo, a senior student will assist you setting up a dues card and answer any questions. We ask that members wear white, judo-weight dogis. The Greensboro Kodokan Dojo no longer keeps dogis on inventory; however, from time to time we make a group order to save on shipping. Reasonably priced Dogi can be ordered from The Kiyota Company, Inc. in Baltimore, MD - phone: 410-366-8275.

Dojo Dues/Fees

Greensboro Kodokan Aikido Dojo is a nonprofit organization. (non profit classification?) Support staff and instructors provide their time and experience on a volunteer basis. As part of our commitment to serving the community we strive to keep dues and fees affordable. Adult membership dues are $60 per month. Teen classes are $25 per month. Parents are allowed to participate alongside their children. All dues are due by the first of each month. A $5 late fee is applied after the fifteenth day of the month. Dues are applicable if the member participates on any day in a given month. No dues are due if a member is absent for the entire month.

We welcome visitors from other dojos to train with us and ask that they contribute a mat fee of $15 per session.
